On April 29th, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence hosted their annual awards gala and presented Governor Schwarzenegger with the “Take Actions Not Sides” Award. During the awards ceremony, Senator Alex Padilla presented the award to Governor Schwarzenegger and noted some of the ways the Governor has helped with gun violence prevention over the years. Senator Padilla talked about how the Governor helped California lead the nation by being the first state to ban a powerful .50-caliber long-range rifle and joined Brady California to celebrate the signing of AB 962, which helps law enforcement track down and apprehend armed criminals. Most recently, Governor Schwarzenegger used his platform to release a video condemning the actions on January 6th at the nation’s capital and encouraging civility, respect and diplomatic disagreement during this tumultuous time.
Governor Schwarzenegger was honored to receive such a prestigious award. He used his speech to thank all the people tirelessly working to end gun violence in America and to call for more bipartisan support of the issue.
