On Friday, April 28th French President Francois Hollande presented Governor Schwarzenegger the highest honor of his country, making him a Commandeur of the Legion of Honor. The Legion d’Honneur, founded in 1802 as an order of merit, is awarded to military and civilian personnel for distinguished service to France.
Schwarzenegger praised Hollande and the French government for their leadership in contributing to the success of the COP 21 hosted in Paris in 2015, and where in partnership with the United Nations, almost 200 nations agreed to targets addressing climate change which would limit global warming to under 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels, the amount scientists agree would be the “tipping point’.
The Institute is proud of the leadership provided by Governor Schwarzenegger during his two terms in office passing landmark climate change bills and related clean energy and other important environmental legislation, and his continued global leadership. Focus on advancing policies that address climate change, clean energy, water, air and other important environmental legislation as well as communicating these issues with impact are top priorities of the Institute, and we are proud to have as our Chairman, a man who is so passionate about this issue, and who has the ability to have a great impact throughout the world.
