Last week Governor Schwarzenegger joined Governor Newsom to announce an unprecedented investment in California’s firefighting efforts. The new fleet of C-130 aircraft and Blackhawk helicopters modernizes CalFire’s air force, which is now the largest firefighting air force in the world. It was an investment that began when Governor-Elect Arnold Schwarzenegger launched a Blue Ribbon Commission during his transition period to give recommendations regarding California’s firefighting needs. Governor Newsom, speaking at the event at McClellan Airport in Sacramento said that Governor Schwarzenegger was “responsible for this day.”
