The USC Van Hunnick History Department, the USC Libraries, and the USC Schwarzenegger Institute invite you to attend Redemptive Dreams: A Celebration Of Kevin Starr’s California. This event, held in conjunction with the release of Redemptive Dreams: Engaging Kevin Starr’s California, features contributors to the book as well as academics whose careers have benefited greatly both from Starr’s research and generous mentorship.
Kevin Starr (1940–2017) is rightly regarded as the dean of California historians. A 4th-generation Californian, the longtime state librarian and USC professor began publishing in 1973 a landmark series of volumes on the history of the Golden State. He spent the next forty years charting into the 21st century the growth and maturity of his beloved home. Among the many honors Starr received were the National Humanities Medal from President Bush and induction into the California Hall of Fame by Governor Schwarzenegger.
