Donald Trump On Climate Change: Fuel Economy Rollback Skewed Data To Justify Controversial Halt

A Trump administration proposal to roll back fuel economy and greenhouse gas emission standards in the auto industry is deeply flawed, a new study led by a team of top economists has found. The administration's proposal, the study said, relied upon an economic analysis that discarded at least $112 billion in benefits to keeping a higher standard of emissions. “This is an insane rollback from the perspective of the future competitiveness of the U.S. auto industry,” said Antonio Bento, the study's lead author and professor at the Sol Price School of Public Policy and the Department of Economics of the University of Southern California. “It makes us less and less competitive internationally, and down the road we would lose the share of the international market we would otherwise have if we were to move towards car electrification.” Newsweek
